Film: Mughal-E-Azam
Singer: Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan
Music Director: Naushad
Lyrics: Shakeel Badayuni
Really marvelous song by ustad bade ghulam ali khan  !!

There is an interesting story about these two Mughal-e-Azam songs (related on Vishesh Jayamala program on Vividh Bharati by Naushad himself). When K. Asif, the producer of Mughal-e-Azam asked Naushad to get the best classical singer of that time to give playback to Tansen's character, Naushad told him that his choice would be Khan Saheb. He added that for sure Khan Saheb will refuse to sing for movies. Asif asked Naushad to take him to Khan Saheb and when they made the proposal, it was promptly rejected. Asif told Khan Saheb that he is willing to give any amount of money for the songs but he is not leaving until Khan Saheb says yes. Seeing that Asif will not leave, Khan Saheb thought he will quote an absurdly high figure. In those days, for a whole night concert, the top artist would get about Rs 1000. So Khan Saheb said he will charge 25,000 for a 5 minute song! K. Asif immediately said, Yes done. Now Khan Saheb was stuck. He still did not want to sing for movies but he had given his word. He then insisted that they first shoot the sequence where they would play his song (hoping that they would refuse and he can get out of his commitment!). But he had his way and thats how these two classics are part of the film. --
